Solar and wind are no longer alternative energy sources; they have become the backbone of new generation capacity, driven as much by falling costs as by strict carbon targets. Built on hillsides or rooftops in a fraction of the time a conventional station takes, they replace coal and gas with fuel that costs nothing and burns nothing. Cleaner air and a lighter footprint on the land are no longer distant forecasts — they are being built, site by site, as the point of the energy transition rather than a by-product of it.

Building that capacity is the visible half of the work. The harder half begins after commissioning: a wind farm has to stay inside the noise limits it was permitted under, a solar plant has to keep producing what its design promised, and every inverter, turbine and transformer on site has to be watched closely enough that a developing fault is caught while it is still small. None of this manages itself. What is measured continuously can be run well — what isn't quietly costs energy, money, and the very benefit the plant was built to deliver.
